In addition to the Level 1 and Level 2 courses, ISSAT offers several customised training packages to suit the specific needs of those requesting them. Some of the training have been offered, and those under development are indicated below.
Sessions offered under this course include:
Trainers and officials involved in planning or providing SSR training
Successful completion of the Level 1 Basic Course or course completion certificate from the E-learning or equivalent AND prior training experience
ISSAT offers tailored briefings for senior personnel from ISSAT members, ahead of their field deployments. These briefings take place at ISSAT HQ in Geneva and include a mix of face-to-face briefings with senior advisors from the ISSAT core team but also with members of the ISSAT roster via ISSATs video conferencing facilities.
The international community, through the UN and other multilateral fora, continue to highlight the increasingly important role that the reform of security and justice institutions play in preventing conflict and building peace. A key challenge facing the international community is the need to build capacity, knowledge and awareness of SSR amongst those working in Peace Support Operations environments. This includes not only development actors, but also military and police personnel who are increasingly engaged in ‘reform and re-structuring mandates’, as well as political and diplomatic personnel.
In partnership with UNITAR, ISSAT is working on a training package which will help integrate SSR into PSO training at peacekeeping training centres, initially in Africa, but extending, in due course, to other centres. The training package will focus on a training of trainers’ methodology leading to the building of sustainable regional SSR capacity.
The course will help participants to:
