Ireland has requested assistance from the DCAF/ISSAT to run a three and a half-day training course on SSR at the Senior Specialists Course run by the Japanese Foreign Ministry with the support of the Hiroshima Peace Building Centre (PBC) in Japan.

The course aimed to develop capacity, knowledge and coherence in SSR principles and interpretations, helping participants better understand the concept and evolution of SSR, including actors, concepts and principles, as well as develop the basic skills required to facilitate a “whole-of-government approach” to SSR.

The Course was targeted at mid-career individuals whose experience may be applied in the field of peace-building. The audience included a mix of Japanese and other participants from South and South East Asian countries.

In addition to the above, a one-day presentation on SSR was made at the National Institute for Defence Studies.
