The United Nations’ peacekeeping operations are vital to global stability, with 110,000 troops now deployed in 15 missions worldwide. But many missions drag on without resolution and some operations have permitted sexual abuses. The U.N. leadership is pursuing reforms, which have been sought by successive U.S. administrations and members of Congress. How far can this reform effort go to achieve the more effective, cost-efficient, professional peace operations the world needs?
