  • Technical expertise is important, but not sufficient. In order to build trust and professional relationships, you also need skills such as (active) listening, being humble and open minded.
  • A professional must shift her/his mindset, transforming from a "doer" to a promoter of reform and sustainable change.
  • Advisors face an unfamiliar cultural environment. In addition to these institutional differences, advisors must also navigate new social structures.
  • Advisors need to seek mechanisms that enhance the capacity of their counterparts.
  • Advisors must be active listeners, eager to learn, and able to make an educated assessment of the situation.
