When you arrive in a country as an advisor, you will need to build your credibility. The best way to do this is to:
1. Share as much information as possible on your previous experiences with your counterpart . This will show him/ her the wealth of experience you possess.
2. Refer to the activities that your sending government/ organisation has previously conducted in the area of your assigned task. Your government’s/ organisation’s credibility can help enhance your own credibility.
3. Mention the various countries you have worked in and draw analogies to the current context. You have worked in many similar situations before.
4. Refer to your experience that directly relate to your task and show openness to learn about the current context. You may have a lot of experience but you also have a lot to learn about the current context.
