Clingendael Academy in cooperation with Crisis Management Centre (CMC) Finland
In December, the Clingendael Academy will be hosting the pre-deployment training for Afghanistan in the framework of the European New Training initiative for civilian crisis management (ENTRi), a project sponsored by the EU.
The 4-day training course will prepare staff for a deployment to Afghanistan to missions like NTM-A, EUPOL, EUSR Office and/or Embassies. The course aims at fostering a common level of knowledge and at creating similar expectations among mission members, which in turn facilitates integration and coherence of the missions.
The course consists of a number of elements:
- The context and environment. Topics such as the role of civilian crisis management in Afghanistan and other foreign and development policy instruments will be discussed;
- the background to the conflict and the level playing field of the various missions and mandates of international organisations in Afghanistan. In particular, the work in the justice and police sectors will be discussed;
- soft skills needed in many civilian crisis management missions such mentoring, advising and training; strategic planning and analysis as well as cultural awareness
- most common physical, psychological and security health issues in Afghanistan.
By focusing on country-specific and function-specific issues the course aims to equip the course participants with the essential knowledge and information in order to be able to function effectively as mission and team members in their respective area of assignment.
Applying to the course:
In order to apply for the course, you have to register with the ENTRi database, contact your national authority and/or the crisis management mission you are working with (NATO, UN, EU, OSCE).
