Security and countering terrorism have been particularly high on the foreign policy agenda across Europe over the past years. Strengthened cooperation with international partners has been key to preventing and combatting violent extremism and the EU has also stepped up its operational partnership with the countries of the Western Balkan region.

Albania is a strong partner for ensuring security and stability in Europe. The country has a respected track record in countering terrorism and its national strategy on countering violent extremism is an effective example for bringing counterterrorism into practice.
