The purpose of ‘sting’ operations is to penetrate suspected corrupt groups or approach corrupt individuals, collect evidence and identify and arrest offenders. They could be best described as a construction made by the police where they offer people opportunities to commit a crime (corrupt activity) with the purpose of catching the offender ‘in the act’.
