International Police Advisors Masterclass

The programme will be run from 29th October to 9th November 2018. The aim is to enhance participants’ effectiveness in the role of senior strategic police advisor to international police reform initiatives, through exposure to experienced actors in the field of police reform or security sector reform. The Masterclass programme uses case study methodology to enable participants to consider alternative perspectives in a variety of international police settings. The Masterclass also lays the foundation for active participation in a peer group community of practice that will help develop the field and offer a continuing source of professional support.

In addition, DCAF ISSAT will attend the Police Master class executive board meeting in Scotland on 9 November 2018 to review the future development of the Police Masteclass.

Advanced Training Course on Security Sector Reform (SSR) in Canada

Canada mandate in Canada 12/06/2018 - 14/06/2018

At the end of the training participants will be able to:

  • Build a practical understanding around the concept and key characteristics (1-2-3) of SSR, based on debate and discussions, exercises and case studies;
  • Enhance skills required for effective and sustainable support to SSR programmes;
  • Examine various aspects of SSR including justice, police, correctional, intelligence and defence reform and the interlinkages between these components;
  • Applying systemic and human-rights-based approaches to SSR in order to account for the impact of SSR on the political economy of a country and civil society.
  • Identify key lessons and latest trends from practical SSR experiences to include considering the key components of Canada’s SSR Guidelines and referencing;
  • Engage in dialogue and experience sharing with fellow participants, facilitators and external experts.
  • Consideration of the wider implications of cross-sector justice and SSR design can help with conflict prevention for the state, society and citizen.
