The National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS) is the Ministry of Defense’s core policy research arm, conducting research and studies with a policy orientation primarily on security and military history, while also serving as a strategic college-level educational institution for the training of high-level officers of the Self-Defense Forces.

Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center

The Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center (HPC) is a legally independent non-profit body created to conduct human resource development and research activities in the field of peacebuilding. HPC has been commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to implement the Program for Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding in the Japanese Fiscal Year 2014.

The JICA Research Institute (JICA-RI) was established on October 1, 2008 to focus on policy-oriented, academically solid studies that address the important issues faced by developing countries. It supersedes and strengthens the research capabilities of the former Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
