Advanced Security Sector Reform Course for Netherlands Advanced Command and Staff Course 13 (ACSC13)

Participants are students of the ACSC13.  The aim of ASCS is to prepare selected officers (rank major)  from all 4 services (Royal NL Navy, Army, Air Force and Marechaussee), for high-grade appointments within the Defence organization and for international positions. After passing the ACSC exams, the students receive a certificate “Brevet Hogere Defensie Vorming” (HDV) and an academic title: Executive Master of Security and Defence (EMSD). The curriculum of ACSC exists of three modules: International Security Studies, Military Strategy Studies and Management Studies. The ACSC course takes place from the end of August till mid-July.  The SSR course will be part of the ACSC programme. The Advanced SSR course will give the students a holistic view on peacekeeping, peacebuilding etc . It will also contribute to an integration of several ACSC lessons on international security and military planning.

Sensitisation training on SSR for EU and NATO

Pays-Bas mandate in Belgium 01/06/2017 - 02/06/2017

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the support of ISSAT to organise a 2-day sensitisation briefing on SSR for EU, NATO - with a specific focus on the role of the military. The briefing will take place from 1-2 June in Brussels at the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU, and bring together approximately 20-30 representatives from the EU, NATO and perhaps some member states - including Dutch ministries.

Through a combination of practical, hands-on exercises, this course will aim to enhance the skills, capacity and strategic thinking of participants on SSR principles through the sharing of views and experiences related to SSR. It will highlight issues such as the principles and characteristics of SSR, enhancing governance and oversight of security and justice institutions, the linkages between justice and police reform and sustainable capacity building.
