77th Brigade is a combined Regular Army and Army Reserve unit. The Reserve element draws specialists on a nationwide basis. This new Brigade aims to challenge the difficulties of modern warfare using non-lethal engagement and legitimate non-military levers as a means to adapt behaviours of the opposing forces and adversaries. 77th Brigade is formed from; the Military Stabilisation and Support Group, Media Operations Group, 15 Psychological Operations Group and the Security Capacity Building team. The 4 individual units above were reshaped and formed the structure of 77th Brigade.
Advanced Course on SSR 77th Brigade UK Army
To support UK 77 BDE MoD Outreach Group capacity building by running the 2nd
of 3 Courses
(1 per annum) focused on building practical understanding around the characteristics (1-2-3) of SSR; enhancing skills required to support SSR programming; examine thematics such as justice, police and defence reform and their interlinkages; identify key lessons and trends from practical SSR experiences; engage and share experience between participants, facilitators and external experts.
Advanced Training Course on Security Sector Reform (SSR) (UK - 77 Brigade)
The 77th Brigade UK Army has conducted an “Advanced Training on Security Sector Reform (SSR)” from 25-29 June 2018 at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham.
This five-day intensive residential course has been carried out in collaboration with the International Security Sector Advisory Team of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF/ ISSAT).
This advanced training was aimed at those who are just about to be deployed in support of a bilateral, regional or multilateral mission to support security sector reform programmes. More specifically, the course targets senior practitioners and professionals – including civilian, military and police personnel, as well as civil society representatives and professionals from the private sector – who are working closely on issues related to SSR such as governance, rule of law, police reform, defence reform, justice reform disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration etc. The course also targets those involved in programming, programme management, mission conduct and planning and/or in political/ policy dialogue. The organisers intend to select a highly diverse group of participants in terms of professional and organisational background, age and nationality, as well as with regards to gender balance.
