Introductory Training on Peace Support Operations and SSR

This five-day training will bring together approximately 25 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the region, including military, police and civilian personnel. The course includes several modules covering topics such as the concept, context and components of SSR, cross-cutting issues, and soft skills. The Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) will take the lead in the design and delivery of the course, with ISSAT mentoring the PSOTC team and providing some support in the delivery of the training.

Outcome objectives of mandate

The Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport has requested DCAF/ISSAT to provide support to the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) in Sarajevo in the design and delivery of an introductory course “Security Sector Reform (SSR) in Peace Support Operations (PSO) Orientation Course“

 

This support falls within pahse 3 of the Swiss government’s four-phased capacity development plan for PSOTC, aimed at enabling PSOTC design and deliver its own SSR trainings. Phase 1 included the delivery of Level 1, Level 2 and Train-the-Trainer trainings to PSOTC. During phase 2 of the project, PSOTC trainers were integrated into DCAF/ ISSAT training teams. As part of Phase 3 of the project, DCAF/ ISSAT will continue to advise and mentor PSOTC facilitators in the design and delivery of SSR trainings. Phase 4 foresees the independent running of SSR trainings by PSOTC.
